The farm, Laguna Blanca, our home, is an amazing place. Laguna Blanca means white lagoon. The farm is located approximately 19.5 km (12 miles) south of a small town called Santa Elena. Nearby Laguna Blanca are three bodies of water, the lagoon and two rivers. The lagoon is located on the southern border of the farm, Rio Parana to the west, and the second rio (name unknown), a tributary of Rio Parana, is located to the east and enters Rio Parana just below the lagoon.

The land was purchased cerca 2006 by Doug and Kris Tompkins, philanthropists and owners of the clothing and outdoor equipment company, Northface. They bought the farm and surrounding land knowning that it needed restoration, both in infrastructure and environmnt, as is their passion when purchasing land. Essentially, this purchase was made with the goal of conservation with production.

Laguna Blanca, the farm, practices sustainable agriculture wherever possible. The majority of the farm is certified organic, while there are a few plots of the orchards that still operate conventionally. Some of their sustainable practices worth mentioning are: contour plowing, mixed crops, cover crops, crop stripping, reduced or no tillage, organic fertilizers, biological control, buffers, terraces, and many more.

The sister farm, Malambo, is located 39.1 km north of Laguna Blanca along Rio Parana. This farm is also certified organic, with the last conventional corn crop harvested this year. Malambo is about a third of the size of Laguna Blanca but still operates with the same philosophy - sustainable agriculture.
