Collected the roots of Lupinus, commonly known as lupines, a genus of the legume family. It is planted as an alternative to soybean or as a cover crop. A bacterium, Rhizobium, forms an endosymbiotic relationship with the plant roots, forming root nodules. Rhizobium fixes atmospheric nitrogen into the soil in the form of ammonia. Our plan is to develop protocols for collecting and storing the nodules, as well as increase Rhizobium populations.
